Mother's Day

Mother's Day was fantastic. Lucy was so excited for another reason to celebrate and talked about Mother's Day all week. The kids and Dave made me cards and gave them to me right when I got up. So sweet.

We went to church for the first time since we had Judson. We were all so thrilled to back at church. We were brave and sat up in the right front corner where we usually sit. It was nice to see all the people we sit around at church. Judson did pretty well during the service, he grunted a lot during the sermon, but no screaming. Gus loves going to church and his teacher, Mr. Eddie. Gus used to throw the biggest fits when we'd leave him in his classroom at church. He finally made a connection with Mr. Eddie and LOVES going now. Gus is going to have to move up to the next class, but we're hesitant because he's so happy. A month ago, Lucy said to us that she was so sad that she didn't bring her money to church and asked why we didn't help her remember. Apparently, there's a collection at the end of the show and Lucy's been wanting to give her money, too. We had no idea there was a collection. We volunteer in the 2's, so we didn't know there was a collection. She wanted to give the quarter she got from singing at the House of Blues back in October! The quarter is the only money to her name and is stored in her Bunny Bank. We felt so bad that we didn't know and explained to her that all she had to do was ask for money and we would give it to her to give. The whole concept was a little mind-boggling to her, that she could simply ask for money. I don't think she's realized that she can ask for money for other things yet. So she took a quarter we gave her on Sunday morning (not the one she earned at the House of Blues) and put it in the bag. She was excited to give. We love that. On another Sunday school note, Lucy really takes in the lessons. A few months ago, the lesson was God wants you to be patient. All week, she would bring it up and tell me she does not like that one. This past week, the lesson was "God wants you to obey." They have been such a help at home. This morning she didn't want to do something I asked her to do and then I asked what she learned at church, she said without missing a beat, "God wants me to obey." Neither of us had to say anything more, she immediately obeyed me. What a great moment!

Back to Mother's Day. After church we went to the Cheesecake Factory for brunch. I LOVE their brunch. They didn't have call ahead seating, so we played at Pottery Barn Kids for 15 minutes before we ate. The timing was perfect. The kids were great! The food was awesome. I always feel so bad for our waiters when we go. We typically just get a meal, never the cheesecake. We don't have room for both. When we didn't live near a Cheesecake Factory we would ALWAYS get cheesecake, too. But now that we live 20 minutes away from two of them, we don't feel as obligated to get dessert, too.

We came home and everyone took naps. Mom and Jim came over for a little bit. And for dinner, we went to Dairy Queen for blizzards (making up for the lack of cheesecake). We made the kids eat dinner before, but Dave and I just had the blizzards. It was a fabulous day!
