Judson's Baby Dedication

Having a house on the market is definitely not my favorite thing in the world. I don't even think it would make my top 100,000 favorite things in the world list. Keeping our house perfect ALL the time is a bit of a chore, to say the least. Judson sleeps in a pack-n-play in our room at night, which means every morning we have to take it down and every night we have to put it up. The laundry has to be done and put away, the trash cans always empty, the dishes done. It's exhausting. We've been having one or two showings a week, which is good, but no takers yet.

Judson's baby dedication came in the middle, or beginning, we don't know, of our house being on the market. For Lucy and Gus, we signed up, went to church 15 minutes early, stood on stage, and voila, they were dedicated. This time around our church decided to change the format of the baby dedication process. We had to go to a 2 hour parenting class on a Sunday afternoon and then the dedication was on a Saturday night, a month later at 5:30. I had such a rotten attitude about the whole thing. The logistics were just much more difficult this time around. Which, I know, seems quite ridiculous that I would have a bad attitude about stating publicly that I want to raise my kid in a christian home.

The day of the dedication was a bit hectic. We had a showing from 11:30-12:30. Thankfully, we got the call at 9, so we had a few hours to get the house together. Dave's parents came at 2. Lucy didn't have a nap (which means added drama from the girl). We fed the kids snacks, because we didn't know what we were going to do for dinner. We thought we would go out to eat after the dedication. I would have cooked a big meal, but being a Saturday, and not knowing if/when people would come look at the house, I didn't want to take that risk of that added stress. Of course, we had to leave the house perfect, because you never know if someone will come.

We got there and it was AMAZING. I felt really awful for being so down on this new process. There was a photographer taking pictures. We got a picture of the five of us and then one with both sets of our parents with us. The room was set up beautifully and we had our own little table with pictures of Judson. So incredibly sweet. The food was great. Lucy and Gus ate a ton. Lucy especially loved the punch. The band played a few songs. Lucy and Gus are rarely in "big church" with us, they go to their own classes, so it was weird for them to be in there. Gus wanted to play basketball, because that's what he does in the big room on Sundays after church, he runs around with the other kids while the chairs are being cleaned up. Lucy was shocked that her friends dads were on stage singing She doesn't understand that they are pastors and what their jobs entail. It was so cute seeing them figure everything out.

We explained to Lucy and Gus on Saturday morning what the baby dedication was all about. Lucy took it to heart and thought we all needed to go around and tell Judson something about God, because that's our job. For a few days after the dedication, we all had to go around and tell Judson something about God. Lucy said, "No matter how much you mess up, God still loves you." Gus said, "God made me, you, Mommy, Daddy, Wucy." So sweet. We had such a great time with our parents and our family. We are so grateful to be apart of our church community.
