Gus

Well, our little guy is into everything. He especially loves bathrooms. We have four toilets, which is by far his favorite bathroom feature, so it is non-stop action trying to keep him out. Last weekend we ran upstairs, because it was quiet for too long (maybe two minutes), and we couldn't remember if we closed all the doors. Dave found Gus sitting in our bathtub, splashing in the remaining water from our showers 45 minutes earlier. But before he got into the tub, he removed all of the toilet paper from the roll and managed to get half of it into the toilet. Gus also loves Dave's deodorant. He eats it and puts it on his belly. Uggghhh! He smells like clean, fresh grown man! Literally, Gus will wander off for a minute and if we have any door open, he knows, goes in, and terrorizes. He keeps us on our toes.

On Sunday afternoon we turned the TV on. Gus saw that Blue's Clues was on, so he climbed up on the couch and sat down and watched the entire episode. That's never happened before!

Dave was gone all last week for work. He was able to come home a day early because of hurricane Hanna, which was nice. Gus was thrilled to see Dave. He did not leave his side all weekend. On Friday night we all camped out in the basement. The hurricane was supposed to come through in the middle of the night and we have really tall, old pine trees all around our house. Me, Dave, and Lucy slept in the guest bedroom and Gus slept in the pack-n-play in the family room. Gus was so excited that Dave was home that he didn't fall asleep until 11:30. Dave stayed up with him. Lucy and I fell asleep around 10:30. Hanna didn't do any damage to our house and we only had one relatively small branch on the ground.

Gus has had a weepy right eye since he had pink eye last Christmas. It's not crusty, just weepy. I asked the Dr. about it last week at his check-up and he sent us to the ophthalmologist. Gus did really, really well. He got his eyes dilated and didn't put up any fuss at all. The Dr's office had a great kids play area, Gus loved the bus! Gus has a clogged tear duct and needs to have minor surgery to fix it. It's out-patient surgery and the procedure doesn't take more than 15 minutes. I asked if the procedure was optional and the Dr. said no. The clogged tear duct won't heal on its own, so he'd have a weepy eye for the rest of his life, and he's more prone to eye infections. The Dr. said they usually book surgeries six weeks out. I'm so glad that it's six weeks away, it gives me time to warm up to the idea of our sweet little boy having surgery.
