Transitions

The kids have adopted a new nap-time schedule. It's great for them, hard on me. Gus is doing great taking naps in his big boy bed. It takes less than 10 minutes for him to fall asleep now! He has a rough time when he wakes up, he just doesn't know what to do. One day he was behind the chair crying, a couple of times he was behind the door, sometimes he just sits on his bed in tears. In the morning he plays in the crib for awhile before we come get him, but now he wants out of his room as soon as possible.

Lucy plays in the basement while Gus takes a nap. She's so patient while I put him down, thank goodness. As soon as he's asleep Lucy and I play at least three games of Candyland. She's become such a good sport! The other day she lost three out of the four games and happily congratulated me and shook my hand each time. She didn't even come close to shedding a tear over losing! She was even excited for me when I drew Princess Frostine and Lolly! I love that she's becoming more of a team player.

On Friday I went online to pay our electric bill and it was three times the amount we usually pay this time of year! Yikes! It hasn't been that cold and we haven't really changed the thermostat. We have a heat pump and no gas coming to our house. This is the first house we've had with a heat pump, so we're pretty clueless as to how it all works. Dave called the power company and they said the bill was right and there was probably something wrong with our heat pump. We were thinking there was something wrong with the meter. No such luck. We did some research online and realized one of the fuses outside that attaches to the fan had blown. We hadn't even noticed that the outside fan wasn't working, so the heat was being generated inside the house, which apparently, is much more expensive. Handy Dave went to Lowe's and replaced the fuse, and it seems to be working fine now. Our house has definitely helped us to be better DIYers. We never would have tackled something like that in our first house!

On Saturday afternoon we played outside with the kids. I still can't get over that it's January and we play outside with sweatshirts, no coats or hats! I love that! Dave blew some more leaves and Gus mowed with his little lawn mower. Gus just followed Dave around! It was so cute! He wanted to do everything just like his Daddy! After he finished mowing, he played baseball and golf. He's all boy! Lucy went down the slide over and over again! We even had the chalk out! It was so nice that there weren't any bugs biting us. Good times.

We're settling into a routine again, albeit gradually. It's nice the holidays are over and we have a schedule again. Dave gets home around 4:45 every day, so we have a lot of family time at night. It's so much fun!
