April So Far

Easter was fantastic. Judson's birthday was terrific. The day after his birthday we went to Duke Gardens. We tried getting pictures of the kids and us. It's nearly impossible to get pictures with everyone smiling and looking at the camera. We still had fun, though. On the way to eat in downtown Durham, Lucy saw a painting on the wall of a building and yelled, "Daddy, that looks like a Picasso!" She was right, of course. We never know what she's going to say next.

Last week it was announced that Dave won the first quarter contest at work. Which means, he was the number one inside sales person at SAS and the number five salesperson for the entire company for the first quarter. He gets to go to Toronto on the private jet sometime in May and present to the inside sales team there his best practices.

On Friday afternoon mom watched Judson while me, Lucy, Gus and my friend and her daughter went to watch our LifeGroup babysitter play soccer. We had so much fun. The kids were great. We took our little lunchboxes and sat on the sidelines eating our dinner. The kids loved watching Miss Courtney play. Gus especially got into it, he cheered and cheered for her. It was sweet.

This past Sunday we had KidSpace at church. KidSpace is twice a year and is a huge family party. For the first two hours everyone plays in the parking lot on inflatables and games. There's food and all sorts of fun stuff. Then everyone goes inside for a 45 minute presentation on a virtue. I made that sound boring, it really isn't. There's dancing, singing and a lesson about the virtue. This time it was wisdom. Dave is the comedy host, so he acted like the virtue was fizzdom and put mentos in Diet Coke. That was a good time. He did a lot more, too, but that was the most exciting part for me. He did a fabulous job and the kids loved seeing him up on stage.

I planted a vegetable garden in a raised garden bed and a cutting garden for Lucy last week. That sentence minimizes all my work. I bought a garden bed, put it together, filled it with 8 cubic yards of dirt, and planted vegetables in it. I also planted two cutting garden beds for Lucy and mulched all of the beds (including our roses). It's so exciting that we live in a house that a) gets sunshine and b) animals don't eat all the flowers/produce c) the bugs are not nearly as bad. Hopefully, I can keep everything alive so that it will be a great summer project for the kids.

Jim's birthday is on Wednesday. He already has two parties planned for him that day, and a dinner on Thursday night. We're going to one of the parties on Wednesday and then we're having a family party for him here on Friday night. After his birthday, our holiday/birthday season will finally end until July.
